welcome to my favorite room.
This studio is the cheery, sunlit second floor of my little yellow house in Holland, Michigan. The house was a bait and tackle shop in the 1900's, so sometimes I like to picture a handlebar-mustached shopkeeper shuffling supply boxes around up here and the chatter of customers picking out their wares below. What I imagine was once the old stock room now instead holds an easel, canvases, brushes, and paints. I'm usually working by this big, bright window to the sound of birds or Miles Davis. It is always a joy being in this space: painting, problem-solving, creating, and making plans.
YOU CAN FIND ME HERE MAKING MESSES AND MAKING SENSE OF THINGS.
When I've got a paintbrush in my hand, I'm usually somewhere along that beautifully complicated, inverted bell curve all creatives know: where you start a project and it's really inspiring, then it's rough and confusing, and then. Something goes RIGHT. The process is always worth it.
